A Cohorts begin in May each year.
Q Can you jump in at any point or do the courses have to be taken in order and from start to finish?
A The program is offered to a cohort on a yearly basis from May through April. The courses must be taken in sequence.
Q Do you need to be in a formal staff-development position to apply to the program?
A No. You do need to be in a position in which you have administrator’s assurance to be able to do the following: Meet at least the minimum requirements:
Group Professional Development

  Number sessions = 8
  Session length = 1 hour
Total hours over the year = 24

Individualized coaching

2 teachers per week who are coached biweekly
4 hours per week in coaching sessions
Maximum of 10 teachers over the year

Q How many hours outside of the classroom would be required per week for coaching?
A Four hours per week will be required for coaching. This is individualized coaching of at least two teachers per week (biweekly). The maximum number of teachers to coach throughout the internship is 10.

Q What are some ways to organize the site-based professional development in order for the intern to meet the minimum requirement?
A The minimum length of a session is one hour; the minimum hours over the year is 24; the minimum sessions (meeting times) is 8. This allows for flexibility in shaping the PD sessions depending on goals, content, instructional needs, etc. The specific time frames and duration depends on the intern’s professional development plan and the context in which the intern works.

Q How soon can I sign up for future years? Can I sign up now for later years?
A An interested person should submit an application as the first step in getting the name on a waiting list. The application file must be complete, and the applicant must meet all of the eligibility criteria for the name to be entered on a waiting list.
