About Us

The Literacy Specialist Endorsement Program is offered by a consortium of seven universities working collaboratively to prepare educators for instructional leadership roles such as professional developer and literacy coach in schools and other educational agencies.  The strong partnership among the consortium faculty maximizes resources and expertise to deliver a rigorous curriculum to graduate students in an online professional education program. Since its inception in 2006, the program has graduated 87 Literacy Specialists.

The consortium includes John Carroll University, Muskingum University, The University of Akron, The University of Toledo, University of Dayton, Wright State University, and Youngstown State University.

The higher education faculty has a long history of working together to design and implement successful large scale professional development programs that well-prepare educators for leading roles in literacy.

"Throughout the course of this challenging, but absolutely incredible learning adventure known as the 'Literacy Specialist Endorsement Program', my knowledge base and expertise have been taken to the next level. The program is authentic learning at its finest…and to me it’s all about being a lifelong learner!"
